shokuninSep 28, 05:35 PMIn an age where architect and design firms are just starting to apply to Apple's design principles to the building of homes, Steve Jobs has gone and designed the iPhone of houses.

WTH? Whoever wrote this clearly doesn't have any idea about what has been going on in architecture in, oh, the past 150 years. I met Peter Bohlin last year and we got to talking about his design strategies. He's been doing similar work throughout his career, even before BCJ (then Bohlin Powell) was founded in 1965. Check out Japanese architecture from the past 1,500 years.

+1 to charliex5. Apple inspiring architects, well that's kind of funny, possibly when we have Unibody construction homes.

RenverseApr 11, 03:19 PMAs an Apple user, I'm thrilled that I'm not afflicted with the need to put down Windows in order to boost my ego.

I never quite understood what made people do this. I'm buying my first Mac, some of my friends already have one, and I told them I was going to dual-boot Windows 7.

Their reaction? Fanboy outcries. Invalid arguments about Windows, and how it's "trash", while I'm absolutely sure that they haven't touched Windows since XP, or Vista. I can't stand people like that.

BistroengineApr 5, 03:16 PM[Nevermind. Took a bit of searching, but I eventually found it. Curiously, for me, it did not show up when I searched for Apple]

Am I the only one not finding this on the App Store?

EssentialParadoJan 9, 04:57 PMThanks for posting the link guys. Can't believe it isn't posted on the main macrumor page yet. But what I CANNOT believe is that Apple spoiled it themselves!! AR%GH.

Please, whoever adds the link to the event, DIRECT link to the event page, DO NOT go to /appleevents/

fyreflyApr 29, 02:19 PMAnd people kept telling me that OSX and iOS weren't going to merge in any meaningful manner for years ahead, if ever. Yeah right. I'd bet the one after this has them nearly fully merged and I mean towards iOS for the most part. OSX will be dumbed down to the lowest common brain cell and you won't be able to get free/open software anymore. It'll have to come through the App Store or not at all. Wait and see. That is the point I'll be moving on.

Yep, you are 100% right. Apple will turn us all into 1984 mindless drones and force us to suckle at their App Store teet.

Reach9Apr 26, 12:26 AMMy 3G is on its last legs, literally. I may succumb to the white iPhone 4 if this is what is in store for the next calendar year.

I have an iPhone 3G as well. It was on it's last leg until i downgraded to iOS 3.1.3, and it's a nice substitute until the iPhone 5. I don't know about you, but i think there will be significant enough features in the iPhone 5 to wait.

RocketmanJul 21, 09:34 AMMoral of the story:

Never argue with someone with a $100,000,000 signal analysis lab or CAMPUS. Especially someone with incentive to publish scientific fact to demonstrate with science their own product is equal to, or superior to, their competitor's products in terms of a "PR talking point" targeted to disparage the FASTEST GROWING and LARGEST MINDSHARE and HIGHEST MARGIN product in the segment.

Also you probably shouldn't argue with someone who has so little to say, everything they do actually say is cascaded along all forms of media, instantly, for free, and with perceived credibility. While the "other companies" issue press releases and badly planned press conferences that end up lining bird cages and sitting in electronic in-boxes as uninteresting and insignificant.

Just a suggestion from the people at:

*LTD*Apr 22, 10:01 PMThe fact that I can not opt out. That it tracking me no matter were I go and I do not get a choice in the matter.

So? How exactly will this affect you personally? Sounds like an imaginary demon. What exactly is your fear? Will some harm come to you?

On top of that the more services that do this the more likely that it will be stolen as it already been shown Apple way of doing it is craptature as it is not even encrypted compared to Googles which is.

Why does it need to be encrypted? For what purpose?

This makes it very easy to steal.

Ok. But for what purpose? To what end?

It more I want to know what info is collect and what is done with it and also the option to opt out.

What exactly do you think will be done with that information? Will you be tracked and abducted? What will be done with information that showed you were like 10km near your local Target outlet? Is this critical, private information about you?

obeygiantApr 21, 12:28 PMSorry, this idea is horrible. People are going to downrate posts because they disagree with someone's opinion, not because it's a bad post.

I can easily see the fanboys downrating anyone who mentions Microsoft, Android or any of Apple's competitors in a positive light.

I just buried down voted your comment because I disagreed with it.

JTR7Oct 2, 02:30 PMMaybe that's not an axiom for "degree of caring" for some people. To the contrary, and considering that Jobs seems to have an affinity to some Japanese aesthetic sensibilities, the "eating, sleeping, loving, and relaxing" imperative for family space presumes some degree of sharing of such spaces with no negative notion of "lesser". To make all such facilities that private makes them isolated, stifling the family-oriented intimacy of the desired imperative. Perhaps more so, the extra bedrooms get only part-time use, so there is no need to commit extensive resources full-time to serving each of them individually (see prior comments on why no library/gym/sauna/screening-room/etc.).

I don't have a problem with your philosophy. In my own home, only the master has its own bath (moreso because the house was built prior to the fad of private baths for individual bedrooms). However, I do not believe that comments such as "Some people obviously want their homes to feel like a home rather than a hotel." are fair. If true777 wants to have a large home, its his/her prerogative. Maybe you all should stop judging how others spend their money. Many of you seem to think that luxuries cannot be used for family time. As if you can't watch a movie with another person.

"Deserve" is a loaded term here.
It's his home. You're a guest therein. Yes, the homeowner gets the best facilities therein, and only the snooty see that as a snub. If nothing else, he's there and using some areas full-time/daily, while guests are occasional.

Of late I'm more struck by how many people presume everyone else must think like them, and impute malice where others don't. Whither celebrating diversity?

I don't know why you're applying this to me. I did say that my comments were speculation. I'm only providing a speculative reason for why people give individual bedrooms individual baths.

Right, we wouldn't want any little princelings to have to share a baath, would we? After all, doing so might compromise their senses of entitlement and privilege.

Who are you to judge how I'd raise my kids? I earned my money, and I'll spend it however I damn well please.

AmbitiousLemonNov 16, 02:15 PMAny rumor published by DT deserves, at most, that special commemorative page with totally fake rumors that MR created some time ago...********!

It is posted on page one because it is of particular interest to the community and was already spawning multiple threads here. Not all page 1 rumors as there due to legitimacy.

So lets stop beating the dead horse of page 1 vs page 2 that we already requested no comments on.

AbstractApr 9, 06:57 AMOther than keeping applications in self-contained folders, I don't see any of this as copying. Even so, having applications run as self-contained folders isn't even an Apple idea.

Built-in PDF reader?! OMG!! What next, will Windows let you resize windows from all 4 corners rather than.......oh wait, it already does.

NAGJan 12, 09:12 PMIf given a chance? What does that mean?

You think if Wired had done this they wouldn't have been banned?

See, loaded. You're warping what I'm saying so you can brush me off and continue to scapegoat gizmodo for something completely separate.

Think about this.

Did I ever say gizmodo probably wasn't going to get banned?

Did I actually say the opposite?

Did I bring up Wired anywhere in this thread or link them to various pranks?

Was I actually trying to make you look at the statement that implied blind faith in print media as being a bastion of truth and being isolated from such pranking?

RATHER than when Apple decided to announced the changes.
Must have been before August 7 2006 when they were "updated".

It looks terrific, no problems so far.
Just want to be sure I have the "latest and greatest" right?

RubbishBBspeedApr 8, 07:23 PMBest Buy does this all the time. I purchased a Samsung TV off their Web site for in-store sameday pickup last year, and took my receipt to my local store. They wouldn't give me the TV I already purchased because they were holding all of that model until Sunday because of their Sunday ad flyer. They had at least 10 of that model in stock on their store shelves.

They told me I could come back Sunday to pick it up. Naturally, I refused (this was like Tuesday), called Best Buy Online and had them refund my purchase. Then, purchased from Amazon.

I'll never purchase anything major from them again.

I did the same with pc world in england, I haven't bought anything from there stores in the last 15 years and would reckon I've taken between family and friends probably 40,000 out of there takings by buying and advising people to purchase else where. Sometimes it may seem trivial to take a stand against these stores but the amounts do add up as time goes buy.

Which reminds me, I must write to the CEO this weekend and send photos and a list of all the stuff not bought through them. Just as they post there financial results, which aren't looking that good this year.

Rodimus PrimeAug 7, 11:57 PMArguably true - but that illustrates a big weakness of the hybrid design...they are always going to take a weight penalty over a pure diesel or pure electric car.

Until we come up with a way to make batteries a lot lighter, more efficient and more green, they are going to force engineers to make big compromises.

but at the same time they carry the advantages of both which normally counter acts the extra weight. For example at low speeds electric is great and better than combustion engine. On the flip side combustion engines are better for maintain speed over long distance.
Basicly with the hybrid design you can get 40+ mpg in either city or hwy.
