Maccus AureliusNov 20, 02:30 PMWell this certainly beats that ipod integration nonsense. MP3 player phones are a dime a dozen, I'd rather see great communication device that take how the user communicates to the next level, not just stuff a music player in it.

likemyorbsMar 16, 05:25 PMAnd what about the person who is accused of raping a baby and is later exonerated? If they are executed then the state has murdered an innocent person, but if they have life in prison then you can make it right. And locking them up in prison for life does remove them from the world as they are never getting out.

I think there should be firm standards for capital punishment. There are certain cases where someone is guilty without a doubt. The connecticut incident, arizona killer, etc. There are many cases where the death penalty is appropriate. If it's a crime with no witnesses but a lot of solid proof, the sentence should be life in prison. See, there's ways around all these "whats ifs".

You need to increase your medication as a matter of urgency.

Nah, i took my adderal today, does wonders i must say.

guffmanNov 1, 12:26 PMI called the Applestore before ordering and was told it shipped with the new headphones. I'm going to complain if it comes with the old ones because that is the excuse I used to justify ordering the Shuffle. I had just recieved a Nano as a gift the month before but wanted to upgrade the buds.

I just called Apple (after recieveing my old-style earbuds with my shuffle) and the rep told me that the orginal plan was to ship them with the new style buds, but that "Apple changed it's mind about this" and decided last week to ship then with the old-style ones.

I was like what the hell - thanks for telling those of us that preordered that we would be getting the same crappy headphones that I already have 5 pairs of....

TantalizedMindApr 4, 09:56 AMI hate AT&T with a passion. Yet, I'd never switch to Verizon because I'm hooked on 3Mbps + speeds. They're the crack of carriers.

AT&T is the worst company I have ever had. We dropped them 6+ years ago for a reason. They always tried to get away with charging a little extra on the bill.. Your a bajillion dollar company and you have to scam people out of extra money? Rot in HELL!

shigzeoOct 31, 12:35 PMI think that they will limit the capacity to the amount of songs ( + - a few) that can be played on a single charge.

Yes, that is perfect!!!

HiVoltMar 23, 08:32 PMYou only hear about VP or Sr VP leaving/going in the media because, well everybody below is not important.. You will understand what it means when you start working...

Haha, what makes you think I'm not working? Sure, I will never be a Senior VP of anything, but I've been working now for 15 years. And not flipping burgers.

justflieNov 20, 12:11 PMI think Apple will incorporate this type of functionality into their first phone. Why the heck else would people buy it, because it's pretty?! It has to have enough sweet features to convince people to drop their current phone and maybe even contract, otherwise it's going to be a huge and very very well publicized flop. They've gotten a lot of free press lately on the iPhone so they can't screw this up or the general public (not just us mac geeks) will hear about it.

SPGJul 26, 07:40 PMWord is that this is a really really basic functionality intended for data and not meant to be any kind of HD video type of software.
This is however the first step to getting HD discs authored on the Mac.
Right now the only real HD authoring options each cost over $50,000 so if Apple is planning on getting an HD version of DVD Studio pro this would be a start in the right direction.

drinu89Apr 7, 09:35 AMI have a factory unlocked iphone 4 and whilst on iOS 4.1, I became aware that when I installed gyroscope apps, they don't work. When 4.2.1 came out instead of solving the problem, my compass also failed. Both my gyro and compass don't work anymore... 4.3 came out still the same problem..

Now that 4.3.1 came out the accelerometer also failed!

Thank god I save my SHSH blobs since I restored back to 4.2.1

Shame on you Apple!!

That chill in the air means two things: the holidays are approaching, and the height of sports gambling season is upon us. The upcoming slate of college bowl games, the Super Bowl, and March Madness always warms the heart of even the casual gambler.

But this year, techies can get in on the fun. A sports betting site called Bodog.com is taking bets on the launch date for Apple's long-rumored iPhone. Bodog's using the money line system to gauge whether Apple will introduce the iPhone by the end of April or whether it will introduce the product at January's MacWorld conference.

For example, if you think Apple's going to launch the iPhone by April 30, you need to wager $150 to win $100. That means Bodog considers that likelihood as the favorite, while a launch after that date (or no launch) would win $110 on a $100 bet. Based on the odds quoted by Bodog, it's even more likely that Apple will annouce the "impending release" of the iPhone at January's MacWorld. A wager of $280 on that possibility is required to take home $100.

We think Bodog should consider additional wagers, such as: Will Steve Jobs come out at MacWorld wearing his traditional black mock turtleneck or something different, like the button-down shirt he sported at Apple's Showtime event earlier this year? But, as usual, nobody asked. Since nobody's asking for our sports picks either, Crave likes Ohio State over USC in the Fiesta Bowl, San Diego's high-powered offense exposing Rex Grossman and the Bears in the Super Bowl, and North Carolina to bring the hardware back to Chapel Hill.

manu chaoApr 4, 05:42 PMUntil the FT reverses route, the ONLY rational response is to either not buy the FT at all (there are competitors out there) or buy it at a news stand.
Where has been the outcry during the last 50 years during newspapers have used this for their subscribers?
So, the moment somebody offers a newspaper subscription that asks the user via a non-modal interface whether to share its data, you decide which newspaper you prefer on this basis. And if somebody had offered a newspaper which by default does not use your data (ie, requires you to check a box instead of unchecking) in the past you would have immediately switched to that newspaper?
Except that you naturally didn't do any of that (despite also naturally there being newspapers which by default do not use your data, eg, currently the The Economist).
All this grandstanding, just at the opportunity to use some strong words.

AcesHigh87Apr 26, 10:29 PMI might just be the playback but not actually skip in the final product. The intro for my youtube videos always skips when I playback in iMovie but it doesn't when I export the finished video.

I'd say test export a short section containing the part that skips. If it doesn't skip in that then don't worry about it.

Lord BlackadderJan 17, 09:25 PMIt's worth noting that SUV and truck sales are growing again as the economy slowly recovers. All the hype about green vehicles that came out at the height of the recession might evaporate if people have money to burn again. Americans won't stop buying V6 and V8 SUVs until fuel prices permanently cross the $4/gal threshold.

All the talk about diesels and hybrids may yet be premature in the US.

Lord BlackadderJan 24, 02:52 PMActually, I am surprised you didn't make reference to the Jenson FF, that's what Ferrari actually copied. ;) :p

A neighbor of mine owned a Jenson Interceptor years ago when I was just a little shaver. It was an ugly mustard color but I didn't care. That and my dad's '69 TVR were my two favorite cars as a kid (I'm STILL annoyed that he sold the TVR before I even hit my teens; I would have loved to have driven it at least once).

It's difficult to make the 4 door format work for a sports car isn't it, when you think that every significant dimensional requirement is against them, physical size of the engine, location of the engine, low height, width etc, Porsche failed miserably, Aston certainly did a reasonable job with the Rapide, but even then I'd suggest that it looks overly elongated, lacks shape in the profile and with a design language that dates back to 1994, looks a little too familiar, to the point of it being bland.

I agree about the Rapide, it looks "stretched" and the Aston Martin look, while beautiful, has become a little corporate. Very few four door sports cars are really a success from a stylistic perspective. If you want four doors you're generally best off with a sports sedan - but sports sedans are usually sleepers, not lithe and muscular looking things. The old Lotus Carlton or the current M5 may be a great drive, but it's not going to raise the pulse the way a DB9 or Alfa 8C Competizione does.

random guess with diesel and vw is: 2000 bucks for the same fittings.. the big reason why VW wont introduce a bigger/cheaper passat in europe is that there is no need with their absurd fleet/business car sales(just like BMW) and their ability to really upsell to the bigger margin Audi or the lower margin Seat and Skoda
the passat, just like top range bmws/audis/mercs are between up to 70-80% business cars around here and the skoda superb thanks to legroom rules taxi sales
even my father got a TDI Passat handed to him which despite being the smallest engine still did cost nearly 40.000k euro

Wow. 40k Euros for a diesel Passat? You could get a diesel Merc, BMW or Audi for that kind of money here (though only just).

i can already imagine clarkson circling the top gear test track with ikea packages and a potted plant sticking out of the open hatch, complete with going through corners sideways ;)

Yes, the show is a bit predictable these days, I think you may have guessed it.

on a more general note Fiat and it's subsidaries seem to be quite on a roll design wise... the last few years i have nearly liked all recent released cars from Fiat,Ferrari and Alfa looks wise compared to the more "hit and miss" or "bland boring playing it safe" of other (euro) car makers

I think the Alfa MiTo is rather ugly, but overall Fiat/Ferrari/Alfa seem to be doing alright.

In the $25K sedan segment, I would consider the Ford Fusion first. At $40K, the Infinity G37 and BMW 3 series win.

It depends on the model Passat one is shopping for, but the new Taurus is actually a serious competitor now since it has moved upmarket and offers a very nice V6 and AWD.

However, people looking for a diesel really have no other option apart from VW unless a 40k German luxury car is considered.

KnightWRXApr 30, 07:49 PMWait, I thought the "Castle in the Sky" saying had a negative connotation ?

A phrase or colloquialism which is a reference to the full metaphor "[He/She] has built castles in the sky but lives in squalor on the ground." This is usually intended to be a criticism of any person who has a rich imagination but does not benefit from it in any measurable or practical way. As an example: A "starving artist". It is to say that a person's reality is quite different from their imagined life.

People think it's a nice name for a service ?
