EnsoniqSep 12, 08:41 AMI am not sure if the pricing reported earlier for the videos is correct, but I did want to comment on one thing...

If the pricing IS correct ($9.99 for iPod version, $14.99 for TV version, $19.99 for both) then the movie studios who didn't sign on because they didn't feel those prices were fair can go and "F" themselves. :)

Essentially $20 bucks for 2 electronic versions with no DVD packaging, manufacturing and shipping to deal with could make a lot of money for the studios. To say that price is "not good enough" on their behalf just smacks of greed.

Whether $20 a pop is a good price for the consumer is debatable...it depends on their tech level. Those of us reading these forums mostly would rather go buy a new DVD in the store for $20 and then rip it ourselves for our own use. But many others don't want to be bothered, and would be happy to have pre-ripped versions for download and avoid ammassing an even larger collection of DVD boxes taking up space in their bookshelves.

Just like with new Mac computer releases...Apple comes up with options designed for the entire base they plan to sell to, not solely based on "power-user" needs/desires. $20 a pop is NOT "too expensive" for pricing for many...it's not a DISCOUNTED price, but it's a fair price and if the movies need to sell for $20 to get all the studios on board (in the future, if not now), that is more important than trying to be an uber-discount movie sales site.

Those who've mentioned Netflix are missing the point...doesn't matter what Netflix costs vs. iTunes movies because Netflix is a rental-based system and iTunes is purchases you own. If you don't WANT/NEED to own the movies, Netflix is awesome. You can't compare iTunes movies to that market though.

MelroseMar 7, 07:38 AMYes, it's Apples highly erratic priorities that are puzzling.

Their extreme hypocrisy and superiority complex that causes them to go into denial in so many cases.

They stonewall and refuse to operate in a candid & open way with customers. Instead they practice silently hiding as many of their issues as possible.

Apples one true area of brilliance is their masterful art of marketing. In the finest example of typical American deceptive advertising, Apple describes their products as "magical & revolutionary".

You really think that many people are that stupid and brainwashed?

JeonatOct 17, 12:47 PMI haven't read the rest of the thread but yes, absolutely makes sense that Apple support both types of drive. We don't know the outcome yet of the format war - it could go either way. Why alienate, for example, movie makers who would switch to another platform if HD-DVD wasn't supported.

Sensible move.

ChazUKMay 3, 09:37 PMOf course it does, right from Settings as well:
ttp://web.mac.com/jzuena/IMG_0020.PNG

As soon as you try to use it (and I'm sure anything built-in on Android will have the same "feature"), the carrier has the option to charge extra before allowing it to work.

That isn't the case for the Nexus S/Nexus One AFAIK. You just tick the box, setup the SSID and if you want WPA activated and off you go.

This might be a little off topic but the following comment:

"One of the main promotional points of Android as its popularity has soared has been the unregulated nature of the app marketplaces for the platform."

reminded me that I have some degree of comfort that Apple screens apps so that I don't inadvertently download something which is actually a virus, steals passwords and other personal information, or does something else nasty.

Perhaps I am unduly comforted and there is some iTunes fine print that says they don't check for that sort of stuff. Otherwise I would have thought Apple could have used the "safety" aspect in it's marketing, and created some fear for Andriod users around they really know what they are getting.

In that way iTunes aspp store is sort of a big condom for your iPhone - pure protection.

The "permissions" screen upon installing an app is your friend. Upon installing any app, you know what it has access to.
http://blog.mylookout.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Screen-shot-2010-07-29-at-12.16.01-PM.png
If an app has more access then you are comfortable with, you can cancel installation. Say for instance a simple tic tac toe game that wanted location and contact access. You would be warned before installation that it is requesting such access and if that was the case, I would cancel installation and not bother with the app.

SactoGuy18Aug 6, 11:21 PMI think the Volt is a technological dead-end given the steep US$41,000 price and the fact your car is lugging around a big bank of batteries as deadweight.

As an aside, expect a lot more turbodiesel cars in the US market over the next few years. Reason: the new Euro 6 emissions standard coming into force starting in 2014. Since Euro 6 is very similar to the EPA Tier 2 Bin 5 emissions standard and many automotive manufacturers want to get their turbodiesel engines Euro 6-compliant as soon as possible, that means it will be soon very easy for European cars with turbodiesel engines to be 50-state certified for US sale. There are rumors that a new generation of Euro 6-compliant turbodiesels being developed at Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and BMW will likely be offered in the USA as early as the 2012 calendar year.

charlitunaJan 5, 08:32 AMAnd why does no iPhone on Jan 4th mean nothing for the rest of 2011??

Indeed. THe rumors were everything from Dec 27, 2010 to when pigs fly. It is not like Apple said they would tell us something by today.

That said, I don't see it happening. Frankly I don't see Apple building a CDMA phone series. Just makes things messy. Now when LTE is mature enough that 90+% folks never have to use a CDMA fallback and the rest rarely do, maybe. When someone comes up with a GSM/CDMA/LTE tri chip that doesn't cost a small fortune, eat up battery by lunch time etc, maybe. But I really think that in terms of 2011 all this CDMA jobs etc is about the ipad, not the iphone.

wiz7domeAug 15, 12:16 PMI just bought the 23 inch several days ago. My serial is 2A6251XXXXXX and it shows up with a june 2006 production date. Like the earlier poster, it is very bright and I also turned it down a little. I also turned the color down to Thousands instead of Millions as a psychological trick for when i need it. Now after reading the pink hue replies (which i totally forgot about) I can't tell if i have a pinkish hue or if its my own paranoia.

1. Does anyone have a pic or example of the Pinkish hue?

2. Is there a way to test or tell which 23" model you have?l

Aww, does the iPad scare you? See, bullies that take their **** out on others are just scared because someone is already doing it to them. It's sad, really. I pity bullies.

We should get some kittens for you.

Maybe the phone is smaller and it makes it look like the screen is bigger, food for thought!

gekko513Aug 2, 02:47 AMLyra, your tone is condescending. Calling Scandinavian laws "perverted" tells us that you're single minded to begin with and that your points can't be taken seriously.

I'll still address the point you make about the size of the Scandinavian market. The total population of the Scandinavian countries are 18.9 million. The total population of the USA is 296 million. The size of the Scandinavian market is only 6.4% of the size of the US market, but if Apple pulls out it's still lost income, potentially up to a couple of percent of what Apple makes in the US if you count loss of sales of music and the domino effect that will cause loss of sales of iPods and Macs.

Of course Apple can survive without the Scandinavian market, but why give up potential profit for nothing except stubbornness?

eric_n_dfwOct 28, 04:57 PMThe thin veneer is off the vast majority of people that clamor for OSS.

Whenever I hear the OSS crowd scream "Software should be FREE!" I translate that to mean "I refuse to pay someone for their work, thus I will STEAL it"!

I don't blame Apple. The OSS community abused what they had and turned to piracy by stealing the GUI. Kudos Apple.

Anyone who understands what OSS and or "free software" is knows that they're not talking about money when they say it should be "free".

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_software (emphasis added):
To help distinguish libre (freedom) software from gratis (zero price) software, Richard Stallman, founder of the free software movement, developed the following explanation: "Free software is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of 'free' as in 'free speech', not as in 'free beer'". More specifically, free software means that computer users have the freedom to cooperate with whom they choose, and to control the software they use.

Are there people who steal software, yes - but that has nothing to do with what we're talking about here.

FWIW: I work every day developing commercial web sites with free software (JBoss, Tomcat, Ant, Apache, gcc, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Eclipse, etc...). Why? Because we don't want to pay for it? Hell no! We pay a lot of money in licenses and support contracts just like we would for non-OSS products. The difference is that, when needed, we can see why the software acts the way it does and even can change it if we find it necessary. We don't have to rely solely on a vendor's promise about how secure or optimized their code is because it's wide open for all to see. THAT is what OSS is all about.

Oh boy- the ignorance displayed in this forum sometimes can be staggering.

I bolded a key word in your quote. IMO

I'm not looking to stir anything up, so stop insinuating.

Just because I have a different opinion from you doesn't justify your annoying statement, "your act is wearing thin"

Really guy? I could care less about what you think so stop -__-

You certainly do come off as less than compassionate. That's for sure.

RyenoMay 4, 07:34 AMI don't know, but it seems you guys are paying way more than what I am paying here in Hong Kong.

Around $50 USD per month, it comes with 3900 minutes voice + unlimited data and free to use on tethering. And we are talking about the speed like this:

Comptition is good. :D

There is a big difference between paying more for service that costs the carriers more and paying for a service/feature that doesn't cost the carriers anything.

America is HUGE compared to Hong Kong to Europe so it costs the carriers far more to get coverage.

RedTomatoMar 28, 01:22 PMI'm not a legal expert at all but I would think that since the Xbox can only connect with connect360 if you have access to both systems (xbox360 and the mac) then that should be evidence enough?

You might well be right, but good luck trying to explain anything novel and technical to the police if it doesn't involve war-driving or hasn't been featured in the tabloids.

With the best will in the world, it may also be hard for them to accept your word for it in this matter without independent certified experts or a pre-existing writeup in their manual.

Wait 10 years, then try again, and you'll have a new generation of young coppers who all played with xbox when they were kids and will understand you perfectly.

Mac.WorldApr 17, 09:47 AMNo one is saying it is, except for you. Nothing is being placed above anything else. There is no order of importance.
Sounds like a lost in translation issue. Reading comments vice talking directly with someone leaves a lot to be desired. Anyway, I read your comments as though you felt that a persons homosexual orientation entitled them to be elevated above another group or person.

Yes indeed. But why we differ is puzzling to me.

Because I am against classifying people by descriptors. The worth of a man or woman should not be defined by labels like black, gay, or what have you. Treat every man or woman equally, as you would wish to be treated, and I see no need for labels. Do you label your friends? i.e. "Hey, I'm going to see black Jim." Or, "I'm going to see Jew Bob."

WestonHarvey1Jul 21, 12:51 PMYou seem to have missed the "... MORE than iPhone 3gs" part.

A better antenna should drop FEWER calls (unless there's a flaw)

You don't get the real picture about performance from that average. What are the call drop numbers when people don't "hold it wrong"? Let's say they were 50 fewer on the 4. That would indicate a massively improved overall antenna design. So you'd have an antenna that holds on to calls about exactly as well on average, with the *ability to greatly exceed previous performance depending on use*. That can't be ignored.

And not all dropped calls are signal related. Some are capacity related and we have no idea how AT&T runs those numbers.
