tech4allNov 27, 01:58 PMI hope this is true. This would be great for the Mac mini. Consumers really don't need a 20" + screen. A 17" screen (4:3 or wide) would be nice, and nice (low) price would be even nicer! Since the 20" and 23" are have the same difference is size as the 17" and 20" would (3"), and the 20" cost $699 and the 23" $999, so the 23" is $300 more, following that logic the 17" would cost $399. Hopefully it'll be cheaper than that though since you can get a Dell 17" LCD for cheaper....maybe a price drop for the whole line. :)

Come to think about it, longer lasting battery stamina, better screen, internal additions. All without really changing the physical appearance of the classic.
It can therefore still be 'classic' with up-to-date tweaks.
No iOS for the Classic.
The Classic will remain classic, that means it won't have too many functions.
Therefore it won't need an operating system(OS)

Timeline of my usual events for an Apple conference, all times are in AEST:
10pm: Some sort of massive leak comes out and we all post madly about it.
11pm: Someone figures out the leak must be fake and we all post madly about it.
12am: The hour of silence as all the Americans try to grab a few hours sleep.
1am: The east-coast of the US starts to wake up and post madly about the leak - the Europeans post endless "It's a fake, here's the link." posts, the Aussies who are awake begin to get incoherent in their posts (who me?).
2am: The forums are brought to a halt by an influx of newbies asking what the chinese writing on this picture of a "Video I-Pod" means.
3am: Kick-off, macrumourslive starts running their text updates, I fall asleep at least three times during the conference and wake up each time hoping I haven't missed anything cool.
4am: Conference is either still going or winding down, if it's still going, I fall asleep yet again, if it's winding down I get a tab going and reloading apple.com/au till all the information comes online.
5am: Conference is definitely over, forum may be flakey but online - hundreds are disappointed and vow to "wait for rev B" whilst hundreds more are refuting their claims of disappointment with long posts about money. I don't care because I'm asleep.
11am: Wha? Who? Where? Oh yeah? Time to get up. Pack up laptop and hop down to the net caf� to watch the Quicktime movies that have appeared on the Apple site at proper speed (not dial-up).
1pm: Lunch somewhere.
2pm: Net caf� again for uninterrupted stream of keynote.
3pm - 4pm: Reading forums for interesting tid-bits I'd missed, start thinking about a beer.
5pm: Pub, pretending not to be a Mac nerd who has just stayed up most the night looking at websites.
8pm: Home, dinner, hopefully not making the long distance call to Bourke on the porcelain telephone.
Thus endeth Apple Conference Day. For MWSF add 2 hours to the time.

There really isn't a "we got if first" thing in news reporting, stuff tends to come first on the wire services and video comes from essentially auction centres (I know of two one in Atlanta and one in London ) which within seconds sells "exclusive" images on the open market.Al Jaz gets something and it's on Beeb/Cnn etc within minutes for example.

Then this new Airport(now, available in 1-3 weeks) can then stream it to my TV. This does make a lot more sense now.

Ding-Ding-Ding! You answered all of your above complaints and whining about Apple's prices. You aren't the target audience for their displays.

Let's not forget, Apple is in the business of making money. If you don't think so, just look at the new iPods that do not come with an installer CD or a manual. Did Apple lower the price by 25 cents, the amount it might take to produce these? No - that's more 25 cents in Apple's pocket.
While Apple is targeting professionals and pro-sumers, they know they need to still compete. Their prices on monitors are WAY off.
By the time these 17" come out, after christmas, 17" monitors will be going for $150-200 max. If Apple did release one, with an iSight and one firewire port, maybe it's $249, at most. Anything higher won't sell.
Remember, companies may set the price, but it's the market that stipulates what people will pay. And if Apple wants a piece of the pie, they will adjust accordingly.

That's one of the problems with digital media. It can be manipulated in so many ways that many consumers won't realize they're getting junk because one measure of performance like resolution will be stellar.
