deputy_doofySep 14, 09:34 AMAdmittedly, I am definitely waiting for the C2D, but I am joking in this particular thread. It's always possible they could release it, but it's not likely. I didn't expect any computer upgrades at the iPod/iTunes show either.

The most I use photo stuff is connect my gf's camera to my powerbook and steal.... *ahem*, I mean, archive.... her pictures. :D

CheeseFrogMar 23, 05:53 PMI actually agree. Pull 'em. It may be censorship, but it's dangerous not to.
I strongly disagree. I often have to transport my infant during the evening hours on weekends and rely on a similar app to plot the safest route to my destination. I WANT to know which streets have been "sanitized" of drunk drivers just so I can take them. My cargo is too precious to risk otherwise. This app is for our SAFETY.

LagunaSolApr 19, 09:14 AMSamsung also feels the need to depict its products just like Apple's, on a reflective white surface.

I wonder how it feels to be a designer for Samsung where you are forced to emulate the competitor's work rather than implement your own vision.

tsugaruMar 22, 03:33 PMOne thing that will stink about the iMac update is that the GPU will most likely only get 8 PCIe lanes, as 4 of them will go to Thunderbolt. Sandy Bridge offers a max of 16 PCIe lanes. So Apple, maybe you feel like adding USB3 to the mix to use the last 4 lanes.

* yes I know the performance of a GPU doesn't drop THAT much going from x16 to x8, but still.

And toddy, a 6950 would be decent, but I don't see Apple offering it. I see the 6750 akin to the MacBook Pros going in (sadly.)

Even the 5750 in the 27" is around the same speed as the 4850. Apple just gimped the 4850 by using the GDDR3 version and only giving it 512MB /shakefist.

rstansbyMar 23, 07:17 PMThis is a horrible idea. The app is just a method for accessing a database. It could be provided from a web-page just as easily. If Apple bans these apps, then people will either jailbreak, or use safari to access the information. There are much more effective ways to reduce drunk driving.

DrDomVonDoomApr 22, 02:58 AMI hate this cloud crap. All just an excuse to take away the consumers control of what they buy or use.

We need a boycott.

No one is forcing anyone to use cloud computing at all, you can do whatever you want with your mp3's I don't see your logic.

OmmidApr 25, 01:12 PMLet me clarify, i made my decision before this news was posted here. I really dont see nothing wrong with waiting on this refresh especially if it will be a huge step forward(which i believe it will be).

Its fine, but if you need it get it, if you dont then wait, at the end of the day this is a rumor.

dr DunkelMay 4, 01:01 AMThe amount people who want to use the iMac as a display is a small group?

We're talking consoles, PCs, Macs, phones, tablets, media players, blue-ray players.

I think we'd see a large amount of people like this features, plus it would make the iMac a much more attractive purchase, as it would still be a fine display even after the hardware in it is too old. I know it would most likely make me go for the iMac over the Mac mini(although most likely I'm waiting for the mini before any purchases)

I can't see how those of us wanting to hook things up to our 27" iMac could be a that small group. I'm more inclined to believe this limitation has to do with Apple protectionism. I mean, like I said in a post a few pages up, there are no industry standard input ports (HDMI/DVI...) and the TB port is limited to only a small fraction of a ppm of the input devices on the market.

Sure hoping for a way to work arond Apple on this one, without going the usual Apple route - with a gazillion adapters.

VegasmanMar 30, 01:19 PMRight... but your still using iTunes, an Apple 'application'. I think I would understand your point and your point would be made clearer if you showed a Windows program/software or any third party program/software that describes the file type as an "Application." If there are any, because I haven't used a windows in a few years. I'd boot up the old PC and check myself but I rather not.

I think he used iTunes as an example because it is something that Mac users would be familliar with as opposed to some other application that you would look at and say "WTF is that?"

Anyway, an .exe in Windows is refered to as an "application". A "program" is a collection of files that includes one or more .exe and possibly other files. This has been the case since Windows XP (possibly earlier).

KnightWRXApr 24, 04:07 AMWhy does anyone doubt that the new Air will be outstanding? My money is on Apple doing a nice job on the Air as they did with the MBP.

The MBP 13" is not quite the bang up job. It got a GPU downgrade and the benchmarks show it. The MBA won't be any different. There's no doubt about it, if you're looking for a GPU upgrade, go look elsewhere.

It's just the reality Intel forced onto us, why does anyone want to live in denial ?

Analog KidAug 31, 05:27 PMNot keynote at AppleExpo Paris, but a press event that day in the US and streamed to London? So crazy it might be true...

$15 downloads just won't fly with me, nor will $10. As it stands, I can buy a DVD from Amazon for $10, get it the next day, and not have to back it up somewhere... Gotta get it down to $5 or less for me to be interested-- maybe $10 for pre-releases.

I'm all over a video iPod though.

res1233Apr 30, 01:50 PMOne step closer to the MacBook Air update.

I swear, this guy never seems happy about anything. I seem to recall him saying this for other product releases... $10 says he'll say it again once the MBA is released.

rtkaneApr 4, 12:23 PMThis is a silly debate here. Having known trained officers and military people and being related to some I can tell you one thing: they are taught to neutralize the threat. They certainly don't want to but if you hesitate you die. Chest shots are preferable because it's easier to target but head shots sometimes happen. People should be thinking about the guard who will undoubtedly need time to work through this ordeal.

As a former police officer, I can verify what you're saying--police are trained to "shoot to stop" not shoot to kill and always shoot for center-mass--the largest part of the body (the torso) which provides you the greatest likelihood of hitting your target and stopping the threat. I can almost guarantee that this guy did not fire off a purposeful headshot and everyone playing Monday morning quarterback judging this guy's actions has NEVER been in a situation like it. You don't understand it until you're in it and unfortunately the milliseconds you have to make your decision affect you for the rest of your life.

RaftermanApr 22, 06:53 AMA great point, it's kind of funny how consumers have let the media lead us into believing we need clouded services out of everything. I can understand streaming television and films, but what is so hard about syncing your music at home once or twice a week?

True. There are also a bunch of products that allow you to set up your own streaming services, like StreamtoMe, which even supports encrypted iTunes files now. And not just music, but video too, and best of all, you have complete control over everything. Its not for everyone, like people without the necessary hardware or great technical skills. But if set up properly, its just as good as anything Apple or Google can provide.

clintobOct 12, 03:56 PMgoing on to say that Africans must be allowed to die so they can evolve and catch up is extreme and unreasonable.

It's always nice to find a reason not to make something "my problem." That's a great feeling. But I think you have gone in a pretty bad "us and them" direction with that.

I didn't say that at all. What I said is that it's been documented throughout history that people, animals, plants, and any other form of life on Earth go through phases where large groups die off. Yes, we are intelligent, educated animals with intellect and compassion, and it is therefore our job to try and curtail those deaths that are unfiar and inhumane. Nobody in their right mind would argue that.

What I'm saying is that when a group of people emerge (not ALL the African people - namely the group of African men who have decided that it is their duty to rape, impregnate, and pilage to their hearts content) who commit crimes against humanity, and then start to wreap the whirlwind, it's "natural" for those people to eventually meet their end - whether it be natural or otherwise. There are an AWFUL lot of African people who are compeltely innocent and in many ways helpless and it is our duty as leaders of the free world to help in any way we can. Of course - that's obvious.

But we also have to leand creedence to the idea that there's a portion of the African culture that is too deeply rooted for us to change, and that has to be allowed to die out on its own. Not the people themselves - the notions that are ingrained in that culture that have caused this problem. Those notions need to die off, and that will only happen in time.

THAT is what I'm trying to say.

SilentwaveJul 16, 02:01 AMThere is no way apple with go with Merom for the imac. One huge factor you are all ignoring, is price. Merom cost alot more than conroe for the same speed. Apple will try to lower cost, and that means going with Conroe.

It's a matter of heat. We can't be sure that they'll go Conroe if the actual heat put off by the chip (ignoring TDP quotes on either side) is much more than a G5.

I hope they use Conroe though- that would be fantastic.

But I honestly can't say that I think it will go conroe YET. It would be more likely when they have to redesign the Logic Board next year because Merom's 800MT/S FSB version will have a new socket and need the new Santa Rosa chipset. They'll be just as well off if they do a new LB at that point for Conroe.

KelmonSep 14, 01:00 PMGee, I love that a thread about a photography event has been hijacked by wishes for a new MacBook Pro. As far as I am concerned the release of these laptops can't come soon enough. For the last month the money has been in the bank for the biggest, bad-ass MacBook Pro that Apple will release so I'm just waiting and hoping now. Following the announcements on Tuesday I may throw in an iPod (3-years+ of Mac and I've only held one once...) unless my wife catches me first.

Bring it on.

hyperpastaSep 5, 09:07 AMStore is back up. Can't see anything new

Same here. False alarm! :(

QCassidy352Jul 14, 09:28 AMwait, now conroe is "widely expected" in the powermacs? I thought woodcrest was... I still think it will be:

mac pro - woodcrest
xserve - woodcrest
imac - conroe
macbook pro - merom
macbook - merom (but months later)
mini - merom (but months later)

We shall know soon! :)

donlphiSep 16, 12:58 PMI have to disagree on the price point.

For $1000 you can get a low level 17" iMac. Why would I want to pay that for a frikking phone?

$600 buys you a nice Mini with a dual core. Why pay that much for a phone?

The phone sweet spot is $299, with bluetooth, camera (optional), full pda capabilities, nice screen, voice command, 256 meg internal mem, 2-4 gig flash, new antenna design to pull in weak signals, open so that you can move it from carrier to carrier.

Something like that would sell like hot cakes. Not only that but it would beat a lot of the phones out there in price, usability, and coolness.

If you can connect a small but full sized bluetooth keyboard to it, I wouldn't mind haviing something that is ultra portable. It could even act like a phone, but I would like to see a smaller macbook available.

I know your dealing with screen real estate issues, but I wouldn't be using it to create movies for disney pixar.

! V !Apr 30, 06:14 PMI want to see Apple PUSH Thunderbolt into the logic board and all of the connections. Let's see Thunderbolt run SSD drives!!! If Apple and Intel don't push Thunderbolt into the light and really show how much better it is, and when I say "show" I mean build it and sell it to people, then it'll be a great idea that we'll all get around to years later than we should.

I could care less at the moment about external storage. I'll care at some point but not until the speed in the computer is as fast as it should be.

I recall FW400 having some success over SCSI. However FW800 was quite a disappointment. I was looking forward to it, until I realize only a handful of products are actually released. USB 2.0 is a success as it offers acceptable wide range performance. Would love eSata, however not holding my breath. ThunderBolt seems great, however with the lack of product announcements and pricing it is a wait and see if the masses will accept it or just go with other options NAS. :)

hondaboy945Sep 14, 04:13 PMOMG it's made from Magnesium. What if it catches on fire?
I assume you are kidding. Wow I reallyhope you are kidding. Just kidding. Seriously it is likely that there will never be a DSLR by Apple. It would be cool if Apple announced the acquisition of Adobe systems. That way they could add Aperture to CS3 and call it something "catchy." We all love speculation. Can't wait. My wife is a photographer.

Also what exactly was the recent ACD upgrade besides the lowering of price, I think I missed this.
