blackcrayonMar 25, 03:55 PMiPad 1 does not support HDMI out, so I'm assuming no, it doesn't work.

iPad 1 does support HDMI out. Use the new Apple Digital AV adapter. Pretty amazing for Apple to "add" a feature to an old device ;)

The iPad 1 can't do *mirroring* over HDMI (at least not without jailbreaking)- but that's not what's going on here anyway. This could be done on an iPad 1, but of course it would be limited to 720p on the external screen, and probably not be able to maintain much of a framerate even then (for this game).

But less cpu/gpu intense games could run on the iPad 1 in a dual screen fashion if a developer really wanted to.

jholznerAug 29, 09:27 AMYonah doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Merom is pin-compatible and costs exactly the same amount. Besides, it would be a PR boost for Apple to have the entire lineup 64-bit and "Leopard ready". The Mac Mini is going to use the 5000 series Meroms and the iMac is going to use the 7000s.

Merom doesn't cost the same as Yonah! Merom costs the same now as Yonah did WHEN IT WAS RELEASED. Since then the cost has gone down and is supposed to dip lower in the coming weeks. Apple could use Yonah in the Mini and lower the price to where it used to stand.

Do you understand what I mean?

- Desktops: 614,000, down 14% from previous quarter
- Portables: 498,000, up 60% from previous quarter

I belive these numbers are for last quarter (note they don't add to 1.3M macs). They should post a correction.

Ping GuoJun 23, 11:09 AMLay the iMac on it's back, and it all becomes clear. There's nothing more frustrating than not being able to touch your computer screen.

Why would I lay an iMac on its back? There's nothing more frustrating than not being able to touch your computer screen, are you sure? I can think of many things that are a lot more frustrating. Perhaps you're obsessive-compulsive?:p

AppliedVisualNov 15, 12:34 PMYou are not a developer, I take it?

Are you seriously suggesting that a developer should ship a product with features that are not only untested, but haven't even been tried out?

What do you prefer: Unpack 8 core Mac Pro, install Handbrake, run it, 50 percent CPU usage, or unpack 8 core Mac Pro, install Handbrake, run it, kaboom!

Being a developer with a fair bit of graphics programming and multithreaded development experience, I would say the solution is somewhere in-between. There's no reason software isn't being planned for the upcoming CPU architectures and newer versions being developed to handle such. In other words, it's no secret that this hardware is coming, we've known about quad-core clovertown CPUs for nearly a year.. Engineering samples started shipping several months ago (early september, IIRC). Too bad Apple doesn't make pre-release hardware available via higher-level ADC programs, only a select few get the priviledge.

Programmers should make the effort to accommodate upcoming multi-core designs into their software development cycle. Once a new system is released, it should be a minimal effort to test and tweak the software for the new system and quickly release an update, thus making their customers only wait a week or two from when the systems first ship as opposed to several weeks/months while much of an application is re-written to accommodate 8 cores since the last version was hard-coded to handle 4. And then the cycle starts again in 18 months when 12 or 16 core chips start shipping. I don't think the software industry has really warmed-up to the multi-core paradigm just yet. They have been resisting it for years as anyone who has run multiprocessor systems over the years will attest to. But this is the way it's going to be for a while and eventually we'll hit a core barrier, just as the MHz barrier popped up. Both Intel and AMD are predicting 80 to 120 cores being the max for the x86 architecture. So start planning and figuring how to micro-manage threads and fibers within your code because we'll be hitting 16 to 24 cores by 2010 and MHz per core isn't going to creep much past 3GHz. And the current thread per task, thread per CPU core mentality that many programmers have is not the proper way to approach this.

aiqw9182Mar 24, 02:41 PMI;m going to go out on a limb and preemptively complain my MacPro 1.1 isn't supported :( and is only as configurable as an iMac...the irony...

You can upgrade to the latest 5870 card if you wanted to right now. It might not be 'officially' supported but you can still do it.

Please don't put an AMD 5XXX series into the new iMacs! :(
If they do it will for sure be only in the low-end 21.5" iMac (5670).

Blue VelvetMar 22, 12:23 PMlol no, look at my previous post.

Wasn't sure, so had to ask. :)

It's such a weird notion, that people can choose their sexual orientation. But then, I don't believe that's what many really believe when they say it... instead, I get the vibe that what they mean to say is 'why can't you just closet yourself and act straight?'.

kelving525Sep 14, 06:58 PMI got the silicone case today, but then I also decided to go with Belkin Grip Vue. Overall, the Belkin Grip Vue is my preferred case since it's shock-absorbing, and doesn't slip as much. :)

Silicone case - quite nice and fits well with the iPod Touch.

The microphone is a little close to the case, but still visible.

dongminJan 13, 05:56 PMYeah I guess there are a lot of problems with this.

But how cool would it be if the sides were completely clean. Maybe they could have a USB and audio output one the side that has a cover that slides over when it is not being used.

I remember when wifi came out and there were all of these commercials about how there were no wires.

But now there will never be any wires ever.

I am just wishful thinking and do not actually know about the complexity that this kind of charging entails but it sounds cool if it worked.

Maybe it's not as cool as having ZERO ports but Apple did patent the idea of collapsible ports:

regandarcyApr 19, 12:14 PMConsidering that a 512gb SSD upgrade on one of the new MacBook pros cost an additional $1,200....I doubt that they will show up in the next MacBook air updates. We still have awhile to wait for the prices of these SSDs to come down. Eventually yes...but for now they'll stay out of the reach of most consumers. When the 512gb SSD upgrade costs what the 256gb SSD currently does - about $600 - THEN we will see more people choosing this upgrade.

ethernet76Sep 6, 10:48 AMSomewhat decent, a bit faster than the 6600GT, less power consumption IIRC. Just look out for normal reviews in the PC territory, that should give you an idea. I think it would be a decent choice in a sub-$1000 computer... over that I'd be expecting something better. Still, the 6600GT which I have is pretty decent, can play most games at a good resolution and high quality settings.

I'm going to buy the basic Mini... the size makes the difference, since it's going to be used at different locations (every few months in a different country ;) ). A superdrive would be nice, but not neccessary.

Anyone knows if student discount and the "free printer" works with refurbs too?

It doesn't.

mozmacJul 14, 04:17 AMASIDE:
I used to do lots of work doing image analysis, and I wrote an application imaginitively called "Analysis". In Windows, when I had lots of versions of "Analysis" running, the names on the buttons on my task bar would get truncated. It made several people take a double-take when they saw all these buttons labeled Anal Anal Anal Anal Anal Anal Anal!!

Why did I mention that? Oh, yes, there's a reason they're called Analysts! :D

I appreciate your added humor. Thank you.

I love my iOS devices, but there's something nice about a tactile, clicking and scrolling player. Especially made out of metal. Yeah, it's dated, and it's sorta of clunky to navigate, but it "feels" real.

GLSMar 23, 02:46 PMApple discontinue that dinosaur! It makes you look bad to just have it on your website.

Yes, Apple looks bad to have perhaps their most iconic device ever on their website. At the very least, without the iPod, the Apple of today would look quite different...or might not even be around....

Having said that...I do hope there will always be a click wheel iPod of some type offered. I much prefer it to using the touch interface, as far as iPod's are concerned.

I should have bought a spare Nano before they bastardized it last fall....

grahamnpMar 23, 12:24 AMI don't think they need to do much but a resolution bump for the screen would be nice, it's also feeling quite sluggish next to all the newer devices.
