JoshHAug 7, 02:06 PMLooks like a good time to let my PM D1.25Ghz G4 retire... The new MP must be at least 10 times faster.
Apple store up again. The old PM G5 seem to be gone.

Me too. I've tortured my poor PM dual 867 long enough. Retirement would be good.

... in a nice place where she'd be treated well, of course.

MacaroonyMar 3, 03:40 AMBill, I would love to hear your explanation for the position of the male prostate.

A quick side note: Sexual tension is most often the cause for anger, jealousy and frustration. So, if everyone had at least one good orgasm every day, the world would be a much more relaxed and peaceful place and we wouldn't have the need for silly discussions such as these.

Hey Birther, guess what else happened today?!

Too many conspiracy addicts out there. Let it go and live your life.

MacinDocAug 27, 03:23 AMthe iMac will get a conroe. Nothing can be as dumb as putting a laptop chip in the desktop iMac. If the iMac could hold a G5 in it, it sure can hold a Conroe chip.
So, does a dual core Conroe produce less heat than a G5? Remember, the iMac is essentially a laptop form factor, so heat dissipation is more difficult. I agree, though, it will get a Conroe chip, as long as it is cool enough.

WillisJul 28, 05:46 PMI appreciate the thoughts on my quandry whether or not to return my 20 " iMac and purchase after the WWDC. Of course my decision is not any easier with one vote for and one vote against.

Thanks Grokgod and Multimedia for the thoughts...

bare in mind that iMacs might not even get updated at wwdc. it could be at the paris expo.

go with what you feel suits you best.

Stratus FearApr 19, 02:28 PMSigh, you're entirely missing the point of this case. No one's arguing that there's been a grid of icons before, it's just that Samsung went the extra step. See, Android itself doesn't have a near-identical desktop, but TouchWiz does. TouchWiz is what you see here, the icons have been made into squares (like the iPhone), there's now a Dock with frequently used apps with a grey background to distinguish it (like the iPhone), it has a black background (meh) but it uses white dots to note the page it's on (like the iPhone). They went the extra mile to provide an iPhone-like experience for their Android devices.

Yes. People here are failing to understand the difference between traditional patents that we usually hear about here, and design patents. I believe what Apple is suing over is infringed design patents. That the Galaxy S has a icon grid method for selecting applications is irrelevant in that case. They tried to copy the general design and likeness of the iPhone, which is against the design patents.

Also, whoever it was arguing it previously... Let's not trot out the whole "Apple lost the 'look and feel' argument against Microsoft" thing. That was a different case. Design patents still get filed and granted all the time. This is a new case.

yodaxl7Apr 7, 11:56 PMAs best as I can figure, it works like this. Managers get good grades if they sell certain amounts of products.

I'll use low numbers here. Let's say BB corporate wants you to sell at least 5 iPads a day to make your "Quota". One day, 10 iPads come in. You sell all ten, yay, you made quota for the day.

But the next day, none get shipped to the store. So, boo, you didn't make quota, since you didn't have any to sell.

So, if you get 10 the day after that, & not knowing if more are coming tomorrow, you sell 5, make quota, and hold the other 5 for the next day when, low and behold, none get shipped to the store. You still have 5 left over to sell, which you do, and again you make quota for the day.

Basically the more days you make quota, the happier BB corporate is, and the better chance Mr. Manager gets a bonus down the road.

Mr. Manager (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4DMPmoJkJQ)

Best buy should fire these managers! Days without iPad, these days less customers in the store. Withholding a few would bring customers on days without any in stock.

ChundlesJul 20, 08:58 AMIs having more cores more energy efficient than having one big fat ass 24Ghz processor? Maybe thats a factor in the increasing core count.

I think you're a bit confused, 8x 3GHz cores doesn't equal 1x 24GHz processor.

digitalbikerAug 25, 10:09 PMIn a world full of computers, I want to be helped by a human with common sense.

I'm with you on this one! The first thing I do when I reach a phone menu system is try to figure out how to circumvent it so that I can get to a real person.

The problem with menu systems is that they only cover the most likely common user problems. I have been around computers long enough that I can fix all the easy issues. The only time I call is when my problem is serious and phone support never has a menu option for that.

ThunderhawksApr 6, 02:25 PMMotorola not selling any units of a crappy product? Huh... who'd have thought.

No need to brag IMO and did you really try a Xoom and put it through it's paces?

I didn't, but tried an ipad 1 and it wasn't doing all I would want it for, plus I never buy a first gen Apple product. (That little rule has served me well since 1984)

Apple is waaayyyyyyy ahead at the moment and the copy cats are playing catch up.

But, I like that there will be a race forcing each manufacturer to make the product better and better.

While Apple is not ignoring what the competition does, their philosophy of making their own products better and better seems to be successful.

So, why change that formula or shake in your boots , just because somebody launches a new copy?

I'm not a liberal but those sound like apt descriptions of some of the people who call themselves Republicans/Tea Party/Conservative. I long for the Republican Party my family supported.

That's not half the size.

And before calling out irony, "your maths" has an 's' at the end. Thanks for playing.

LOL!!

Way to not understand "numbers". BTW, "maths" is British, "math" is American English.

tundrabuggyApr 19, 03:35 PMSo True...

Poor lost souls rely on Steve to think for them, bring them courage, and guide them in worship.

Anyone who fails to fall in line, is immediately a threat to them.

It's this weakness is laughable.

Funny, I'm a Dallas Cowboy fan, the fans are fanatics and everyone who is not a Dallas fan HATES the Cowboys. I feel the same heat being an Apple fanatic. The fans are loyal and defending of the brand while every other tech fan hates us. I need a big white Apple logo with a blue Dallas Cowboy star in it. I might be shot!!!! lol

BC2009Apr 12, 05:42 PMThat is what the 49$ 3GS is for...

My buddy just got one the other day. Why cause it was 49 bucks...

and i got an HTC INspire for $20 that is better than my old 3GS

I think the $49 3Gs is AT&T's attempt to offer something that Verizon does not. Previous to Verizon getting the iPhone, the cheapest iPhone price was $99, and once the iPhone 5 comes out, I expect that there will no longer be a $49 iPhone option.

Offering a two-year old model at a discount is not what I call a deal -- and mind you -- I own a 32GB iPhone 3Gs while I am awaiting the iPhone 5. I love my iPhone 3Gs, but I would not advise anybody to buy one today with the iPhone 5 just around the corner.

Apple would do better creating a trendy newly-released iPhone-nano for a lower price and perhaps use iAd to help monetize it (the same way Amazon is doing with Kindle). Teens would much rather own a trendy new phone than a two-year old model that looks dated when held up next to its successor -- but that is just my guess at what the market would do -- I am certainly not all-knowing.

Macky-MacApr 27, 03:33 PM.... To the contrary, I said from the very beginning that there was likely a simple explanation and that I wanted to hear such an explanation which I think MattSepta (unlike the rest of you) has begun to offer. Are there any other expert opinions out there on this issue? ....(

perhaps the Design & Graphics forum would have been a better place to post a technical question about layers in PDF documents.

Instead you posted it in the PRSI forum.....that certainly seems like you actually wanted the political responses you got.....and expected?

TiAdiMundoAug 7, 05:10 PMFrom Vista Help:
"Previous versions of files and folders are copies that Windows automatically saves as part of a restore point. Any file or folder that was modified since the last restore point was made (usually 24 hours earlier) is saved and made available as a previous version. You can use previous versions of files to restore files that you accidentally modified or deleted, or that were damaged."

I can use this now but without childish animations. Simple right-click the folder and select "restore previous versions".

For me the Leopard preview was a big disappointment. No innovative features but silly Vista bashing all the time. Come on, Apple!

What about flash drives? Meta data organisation in Finder? Media streams over local networks? Better window management? Spaces is the next answere to the incomplete Dockbar-conception (Expos was the first and Time Maschine is a next interface ornateness).

Preview and network-wide search in Spotlight? Who is copying here?

I can't believe that: but now Vista looks innovativ!

DicxNov 28, 07:55 PMWas trying for a long time to find this article:

http://db.tidbits.com/article/8751

A good story of how Microsoft got screwed into paying the $1. Long story short, because of them not controlling a market for once and not having the largest publisher of music to get tunes from, Universal held MS's feet to the fire and said pay up or forget it.

Good read nonetheless.

kdarlingApr 6, 02:32 PMAs was pointed out by a previous poster, iOS was developed for tablet use.

That's a common misreading of what Jobs said.

iOS was developed for the phone first, although its idea of using a touch UI was not.

As Jobs explained, there was a simple UI demo done on a touch device originally designed to be a keyboard input prototype. That demo gave him the idea to go all touch on the iPhone. That's what he meant by "the tablet came first".

Since we know that during summer/fall the first iPhone UI concepts were done using iPods with wheels, his touch "eureka" moment probably came in late with the UI demo almost certainly done under OSX.

According to all known histories, the actual creation of iOS didn't begin until 2006. Prior to that, some at Apple were still proposing using Linux for the phone OS.

ruutiveijariSep 19, 02:28 AMI hate this "one week until new ******" -time of the year when I'm going to buy something new. Last time I decided to wait was with the PowerBooks. Someone said next tuesday (quite a few times) I believed it and I'm still using my PB G4.

Now I'm the market for a new MacBook and ... Well.

Damn. Though the interesting thing is I don't need the speed increase, My Core Duo iMac is too fast for my mediocre every day use. It still want Merom, badly, not knowing why.

EDIT: typo

MacSASep 19, 03:53 AMPowerBook G5 by the holidays.

Oh My God lol

........anyway, maybe the MacBook will stick with core duo, if they do, they could (and should) cut the price since those core duo chips are supposed to drop in price soon. And if they still insist on shipping a 750 laptop with a combodrive worth 50p i'll scream.
