charlitunaApr 5, 10:34 PMProblem is, its still Final Cut and will still suck at managing media.

Guess you want us to believe you are one of the folks blessed with an advance look

I'm not trolling, this is an honest question. But isn't a Final Cut pretty much worthless for commercial use without a way to put the results on Blu-Ray?

It's called 3rd party software and an external burner. Us big boys do it that way all the time.

It wouldn't hurt to actually read the article. I know this wouldn't allow you to write the gibberish that is your paranoia, so I can see why you wouldn't. They say very clearly that they will be releasing an update to the particular problem of location services. Also, the phone isn't logging your location if it is logging cell towers and some wifi hotspots. It's logging those locations.

And how close do you have to be before a wifi is logged? they reach what, 10-100meters? Take the log and triangulate the cell towers, since your properly most at work or at home, those two places will stand out in the data.

LegendKillerUKApr 6, 10:54 AMOf course we do. The integrated graphics card will perform just as poorly as every other Sandy Bridge processor because it's the same.

What do you intend to do on an Air that will require what little extra power the nvidia gfx offers over Intel. You sure as hell can't game with it.

Reach9Apr 11, 05:22 PMAh, so most of the stuff on Android is "better" only because it's on a bigger screen?

So if Apple came out with a 6" iPhone, that would make it better than Android, right?

And the navigation app I purchased houses all the map data on the device and doesn't rely on a data connection to operate. Unlike Android's stock navigation.

Um, how about the entire OS?

There are also people (like me) who prefer not to carry something the size of an old-school Palm Pilot in their pocket.

Clearly you missed out how Multitasking, and Notification system is better. And yes, size does matter. If Apple came out with a 4" phone it would be amazing, but still wouldn't be better than Android unless they fix issues like notification system.

Good for you, i like the fact that I don't have to buy an expensive app for something which comes free on another device. But here's the deal, for argument sake i didn't count apps from the App Store or Android App Store. So the stock application Maps on the iPhone is completely premature compared to the Google navigation on an Android.
You're just proving my point.

Right Android based their OS from iOS. But they have surpassed iOS in regards to usability as a smartphone.
When Steve Jobs announced iOS in 07, he said that the OS was 5 years ahead of it's time. Well, he definitely proved it, but 4 years later there are amazing OS around, definitely isn't ahead of its time anymore.

I believe not all the Android phones are massive, you don't have to generalize. The following picture should make things clear:
http://4ucellphone.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/iphone-4-samsung-galaxy-s-htc-desire-screen-size-compare-580x365.jpg

iPhone 4. Samsung Galaxy S. HTC Desire.

I think the point you're missing is that i can also enjoy these features you're stating with my iPod Touch, and i'll still be able to enjoy the true smartphones, the Android phones.
Anyway, this is my own opinion, you can keep your fanboy perspective as well. Like i said, we don't have to agree.

Who knows? Maybe iOS 5 and iPhone 5 will surprise us all (in a good way). And then i won't be switching.

unicorn025Mar 31, 08:36 PMIt's because of the Buy One Get One option. Nothing more. People choose that option because it makes financial sense and if they don't really care about the OS or the phone, they will choose the one that fits their check books. If Apple was to OK ATT and VZ to do a Buy One Get One on the iPhone, there would be no comparison. It would be game over for Android.

but you can by a older iphone for 99 dollars

Xian Zhu XuandeMar 31, 03:02 PMThis is a smart move. It had to happen sooner or later.

John Gruber would eat Steve Job's ***** if he could. His opinion is extremely biased.
Except... he's right. This was a bait-and-switch from Google. I don't think it was a bad move for the future of the platform, but it does render a lot of their PR commentary through history as bogus. As for Gruber, you clearly don't like him, but while he is certainly a fan of Apple he is usually correct.

Astro7xApr 10, 09:29 PMI'm a little confused...why was Avid presenting at a Final Cut Pro User Group's meeting anyway? Do they just come in and are like "Hey, you've all made a mistake!" or something?

I went to a FCPUG meeting where Adobe demoed CS5 right when it was coming out. It was nice being able to see the software in use and ask somebody questions. Not everbody is an Apple fanboy.

It needs to come with a 27 inch multi-touch surface to use as the primary work surface, with my current 27 inch monitor as the head-up dual-monitor (input-output-view).

This is long overdue. If apple won't make it, AVID should. ASAP! :)

And for all us professionals, price is not an issue. We want it to be expensive, and so nice that people will rent out facilities.

Bring it on Apple!

This would be the perfect gifts for the pro-world, after helping you back from bankruptcy, remember dear Apple?

Best,
Jon M.

Hahahahaha... prepare for disappointment.

Aww, give them a break, they're probably just trying to keep with the 90's design of the UI. :D

Honestly, the website totally sucks. Looks like a get-rich-quick advertisement site. They might be FCP pros, but they know amateur HTML.

To be honest, the majority of the people that attend the local FCPUG meetings I go to are old school editors that do just that, edit. I'd also say that the demographic skews more towards freelancers.

milozauckermanJul 14, 02:54 PMWithout a doubt. And in keeping with long tradition, the "less expensive" name-brand PC will mysteriously come with less (ports, software, even speed if Netburst lingers) than the Mac
I'm talking about Core2 Duo machines - either Conroe or Woodcrest.

Ports? My G5 tower had no more ports than any other PC I've seen. My current CD iMac actually lacks any kind of high-speed port for external hard-drives or burners.

Software? OK, I know it's supposed to be a selling point, but there's not a damn thing outside of iTunes I use in iLife enough to justify hardware prices at any level. They're nice freebies, but I happily pay the Apple Tax to have an OS that works with me rather than against me. Unquestionably worth it, but I'm not going to pretend that I'm getting good value in the (theoretical) hardware.

I think I know what the apologists will say - no one else will offer Woodcrest in a low-end pro machine, they'll use Conroe. And yeah, that's probably true, but for a reason - there's no reason to put Woodcrest in the low-end tower offering, aside from a desire to perpetuate the artifical line distinctions. Which isn't going to cut it in the Intel world.

flatlinedJun 9, 09:46 AMI have a few quick questions for anybody that works at Radio Shack:

I plan on going into a Radio Shack store on Tuesday to look into Appraising my iPhone. Do I need the Original Box? I have the Accessories and the books that came with my iPhone, but don't have the box.

Also can I just get an Appraisal without having to agree to it? and
Does my phone have to be resorted to factory setting and my info wiped off if I'm just going in for an Appraisal?

If I decide to go along with the Appraisal and Pre Order an iPhone 4 does the store take my iPhone that day? Or do I keep it until I get the iPhone 4?

I was also wondering if it makes any difference in the appraisal if the phone is a Refurbished or not? My Girlfriends is a Refurbished one.

Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks!!!

The ArchAngelMar 26, 08:22 AMI'm shocked at how many people are so willing to just wave away all the nice under-the-hood changes and improvements that Lion offers just because there aren't any super-radical UI changes... really disappointing to be honest. Does it really have to be all flashy to be of interest to you? What, the functional side of things doesn't matter any more?

As an amateur OS X developer, I really hate this attitude because it will end up slowing Lion adoption. That really sucks, because there are a ton of awesome changes in 10.6 that I (and many, many other developers) would love to take advantage of to make their software even greater, but it's not going to be viable to go Lion-only for said features until Lion is installed on the majority of Macs out there.

I hear what you're saying, and agree in large part, but since when did most consumers select products on grounds other than primarily looks?

Cheers.

animatedudeApr 7, 09:21 AMIf June 2011 is set, then i would expect:

11.6"
Sandy Bridge
4GB RAM default
256GB SSD max
Thunderbolt

13"
Sandy Bridge
4GB RAM default
512GB SSD max
Thunderbolt
Back-lit keyboard
Ext Superdrive free (hi end model)

Rejoice!

ok don't be as ass! back-lit keyboard on the 13' but not the 11' would be heartbreaking for those of us who wants the 11 and will make the decision making between the two even harder..

cmaierApr 20, 12:10 PMThen it sure doesn't apply to all models then if the trade dress claim is an AND'd combination. If the trade dress claim only applicable to certain models in the ones listed in the complaint ?

The trade dress claims do not list specific models.

Specific models ARE shown for illustration purposes in the background portion of the document, however.

SyddeMar 22, 01:39 PMI agree with the sentiment, though I wonder how much difference it would make - Bush managed to lie, cheat and steal a vote out of congress in favor of the Iraq invasion. Plenty of congress members were either duped or cowed into voting in favor. It wasn't a declared war, it was even better - he had congressional sanction without being restrained by a declared war.

hmm, that sounds exactly like what is happening here. Maybe we could asK Joe Wilson what he thinks about it.

BosunsfateAug 5, 04:39 PMThe final intel replacements for the power mac line are a certanity, but likely not really a big deal, regardless of the horsepower they may have. Though I'm sure Jobs will make much fanfare of the "having finished the Intel transistion." And he should. One year is trully a thing to be proud of.

That said, the show is going to be about Leopord. All day and night. In pretty much every release of OSX there has been something totally new. The question I still have is what's new.

Nothing in this rumor roundup is really new, sans windows virtualization.

-Finder Improvements*needed, but window dressing, not "new"
-iChat improvements*byproduct, not a headline

bibbzJun 11, 08:25 AMWell that is pretty dumb of them to do that. Makes no difference whether the store does it or you send it in. You would think they would want you to take it into a store so an employee can see the product and make their judgement.

Thats exactly it, we judge them honestly bc we can get in trouble if we say its a pristine condition phone to get you more money then send it in and its old and busted...

I'm on a conf call and just got word about the early openings. As soon as i get to work in a minute ill post all the info i have. :)

FF_productionsAug 15, 09:50 PMWell, we all knew that the G5 isn't a "bad" chip necessarily.. It's older tech, and I think, wasn't really meant for this kind of work (non-server applications).

Preaching to the choir am I?

I actually want a G5 now that they have started coming down in price. I could get a dual g5 for a pretty good price, it sure is a step up from a Dual G4.

MikeD23nuApr 6, 06:26 PMI just got my low end 13" MacBook Air with 4GB of RAM today too. Should I keep it?

Me too! It's killing me...don't know what to do.

jaxstateAug 11, 10:50 AMI wonder if it's going to be a toy or a real phone. I'm hoping it's more of a smartphone than a ngage phone. (i know they couldn't make a phone that bad if they tried, just tryint to get a point out there.)

EvangelionAug 18, 04:44 AMI have to say, I actually expected the woodcrest results to be better. It really shows that the G5 was years ahead of the competition.

On some tasks, it was. Overall, it was merely competetive with what was available on the x86-world at the time (Opteron etc.). The difference was that G4 was getting massacred by x86, G5 restored parity.

Yes, G5 whooped ass on some benchmarks. And lost in some other benchmarks. But at least it wasn't getting it's ass whooped all the time and everywhere ;)

ruutiveijariOct 15, 01:06 PMWhy would Apple show their Clovertown workstations after HP and not simultaneusly with HP?
Because HP is a much bigger company with much bigger sales volume and probably gets all the new processors before Apple does.

stormjAug 11, 01:51 PMThe US GSM carriers suck. T-Mobile has great customer service, but their coverage stinks. Cingular has great coverage, but they have BY FAR the worst customer service.

Plus EVDO beats the pants off of EDGE. And Verizon + Sprint + Amp'd + US Cellular + a bunch of other, smaller CDMA carriers account for over 60million potential customers in the US. If they only do a GSM version of the phone, it'll be a big mistake.

EDGE is not meant to compare with EVDO, UTMS is.

Can you imagine them making the phone only for CDMA? That translates to "US only." There will be a GSM version, it will most likely support UTMS, which is as good or better than EVDO.

Even assuming for the sake of argument, which I don't in reality, that CDMA is better than GSM for voice, the annoyance of not being able to swap SIM cards is enough for me to avoid it.

That and the fact I can't use it anywhere outside the US.
